Westward Expansion Review
The objective of this lesson was for students to learn that every opportunity has a cost and to review for the quiz on Western Expansion. Students worked in groups to design a travel advertisement on reasons to move westward. This activity not only served as a review of previously learned material but it also helped students learn how to work in groups (a skill reinforced throughout the year). Groups created a "sales pitch" to present the advertisements to the class. After presentations, the class reviewed all material and discussed whether the United States’ Westward Expansion policies were good or bad for the country.

The Great War: The making of the Treaty of Versailles
The objective of this lesson was to cover the end of the war with specific attention to the Treaty of Versailles and understanding how exclusion sparked anger. Students first completed an activity packet to understand the impact of the war on each country. After, students worked in groups to create a list of what was important to their assigned country for postwar conditions as outlined in a treaty and then discussed their list with other groups to compare the different perspectives. Students read a shortened version of the Treaty of Versailles to predict how Germany would react.
